KEYWORDS -
OPTIMISATION
Keywords and built in
Page Analysis optimisation should become a major focus of any webmasters
ambitions.
In the excitement of creating a new Web site it is very easy to overlook the important subject
of search engine optimization.
Thanks to the functionality that is built into my favourite website creation program, you now
have no excuse to publish pages that are lacking keyword focus or have meta data missing.
You’ll quickly learn what you need to do to create naturally optimized pages that will rank
well with search engines and that will also be readable and accessible to visitors.
Successful Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) relies on keywords to make a website
visible to more people and potential customers, and it’s important to think about the ‘searchability’ of your
copy when you’re writing your website. By following these simple steps you can improve the accessibility of your
website and start to move towards the top of the search engine rankings.
- When it comes to keywords optimisation,
less is more. Aim for a manageable amount you can include on every page. Trying to include too many
keywords in your copy will make it clunky and hard to read.
- Long tail keywords are best. Trying to
optimize your site for a single word, like ‘holidays’, is very difficult because there’s so much
competition. Try to use a ‘long tail’ keyword (or keyphrase) like ‘self drive car hire in Hong
Kong'
- Use keywords in headlines and at the
beginning of sentences. When your website is being searched for keywords, the headlines and beginning of
sentences are searched first.
- Use keywords in your link text. If
you’re linking internally between pages in your site, include a keyword in the link. Even better, include a
keyword for the page the link leads to, rather than the one it appears on.
Optimize your metadata. Use keywords in your page title, alt text when adding images and page
descriptions
Google in particular is becoming expert at detecting the overall theme of a site, not only a single page.
When someone searches a topic, Google determines not only the content of a particular page, but of the site as a
whole.
Lets compare two sites, one is about flowers in general, but one of the pages on the site is about growing
tropical flowers in Siberia. The other site is all about growing tropical flowers in Siberia and also had a page
about flowers in general.
If a search requested ‘tropical flowers in Siberia’ Google intelligence would indicate the second site as being
more relevant for the searcher than the first site. This example may be a very over simplified, as numerous other
factors are taken into account, but it does illustrate that the overall theme of a site, is a main priority if you
want to maximise the ability to rank near to the top of search engine rankings.
By incorporating three factors RELEVANCY, QUANTITY, and QUALITY will assist in escalating your effort to achieve
a prime position in search engine rankings. No matter what the topic of your website relates to, it is important to
include relevant content, in depth quantity, all of high quality.
TEXT TEXT
TEXT
It is important to include lots of text to enable search engine spiders to read the text content and categorise
the search results accurately. Many sites are not recognised, they have heaps of content, but it is not in text
form. Usually they have graphics and visual content, and poorly worded ‘alt’ tags. Alt tags are descriptions that
can be added to images displayed on web pages (making a description of the image available if images are turned off
in their browser). Search engines can’t ‘see’ the image but can read the ‘alt’ descriptions. Search engines at
present are unable to analyse video and audio, but no doubt they are working in it.
Good solid text content, and a lot of it, will for a long time to come be the main means of search engine
listing success.
A
CONTENT LED STRATEGY
With content led strategy you don’t have to risk any ‘Black Hat’ or other unethical marketing means. If
you incorporate good content, you are providing a worthwhile and positive experience for users of the World Wide
Web. You will remain visible to searchers, you won’t be removed from search results because of underhand technique
and you will be able to sleep easy after all your effort, with the knowledge that all your hard work will reap
reward in the long term.
It is important to note that over the years, some people have created some amazing but dubious techniques
for artificially boosting their search engine ranking. The techniques have sometimes been quite effective. To their
misfortunet they overlooked the simple fact that Google employs better brains, many the best in the
business, and they welcome the challenge. They can tweak their system instantly to downgrade
or often ban any site suspected of system abuse. It is not uncommon for people using unethical tactics, who
were earning thousands of dollars a day, to then find their earning plummet because Google simply took exception to
the technique they were employing.
Many people who have built a genuine site, full of genuine informative content, built up over
time, have slowly but surely ascended the search engine rankings now see consistent year on year revenue growth.
They can rest assured that their revenue growth isn’t going to vanish
overnight.
